About this Course
First, in Section One, we’ll explore care farming and common practices applied globally at care farms, like green care.
Next, Section Two provides an overview of trauma-informed care and the research of traumatology. Resources are evidence based and supported by decades of research from experts in their fields.
Additionally, in Section Three, we’ll explore supporting systems of credible interventions to apply through farm nature at your care farm. These modalities have been field tested and refined by a variety of therapists including LPCs, OTs, PTs, and STs at Simple Sparrow and other care farms all over the world.
In Section Four, we will explore a variety of care farm models to better understand how different models meet needs and how trauma-informed care is easily integrated at any care farm.
Finally, Section Five discusses how to set up your own trauma-informed care farm for lasting impact and sustainability. Some of Simple Sparrow’s programs and services are also detailed to help you get started on your own program development and evaluations.
Throughout this course, you will find closed captioned training videos, licensed therapist interviews, and testimonials along with content from Dr. Jamie Tanner’s book Trauma-Informed Care Farming: Applying Trauma-Informed Care on a Farm.
About Simple Sparrow Care Farm
“Learn + Grow + Heal”
Simple Sparrow Care Farm, founded in 2017 by Jamie Tanner, MACL, DEMin, is a trauma-informed care farm located in Central Texas. Since its founding, Dr. Tanner has been on a mission to use farm-based programs and services to help people “Learn + Grow + Heal.” Her vision gave rise to a care farm model centered around trauma-informed care and response that benefits people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. The model aims to teach people how to care for land, gardens, and animals in trust relationships with others so that through relational care experiences, they are better able to care for themselves and others. Dr. Tanner’s research and personal insights are explored in her doctoral dissertation, A Development and Evaluation of Simple Sparrow Care Farm’s Executive Leadership Training Program, which this training is built on. Her work demonstrates that the Simple Sparrow Care Farm model is replicable and scalable, promoting better mental health and enhancing overall quality of life outcomes.
